About The Chilli Index

The Chilli Index is an online database and knowledge resource about chilli pepper varieties, including heat ratings, growing data, flavour profiles, and related content. It is provided for general information and educational purposes.

Information only — not professional advice

Content on the Site is for general information only and is not professional advice. This includes horticultural, agricultural, nutritional, and health-related information. You should not rely on it as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional.

Chillies can be extremely hot and growing conditions vary. Scoville (SHU) figures are estimates and typically given as ranges; actual heat, yields, and results will vary. Grow, handle, and consume chillies at your own risk, and take appropriate care — especially with superhot varieties and around children, eyes, and skin.

Accuracy of information

We work to keep the information on the Site accurate and up to date, but we make no warranties or guarantees that it is complete, current, or error-free. Variety data, SHU ranges, and growing information are provided “as is”.

AI features

Some features use artificial intelligence — for example, the AI plant doctor and the chilli identifier. AI results are automated estimates that can be incomplete or wrong. Treat them as a starting point, not as professional, horticultural, or health advice, and check anything important before you act on it.

AI features are subject to fair-use limits and may be changed, limited, or withdrawn at any time.

Acceptable use

You agree to use the Site lawfully and not to:

• Copy, scrape, or harvest content or data at scale without our written permission.
• Interfere with or disrupt the Site, its security, or its underlying infrastructure.
• Use the Site to break the law or infringe the rights of others.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Site or its accounts.
• Upload, post, or submit content that is unlawful, infringing, misleading, abusive, or that you do not have the right to share.

Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, the content on the Site — including text, data compilations, graphics, logos, and the “The Chilli Index” name — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may view and share links to the Site for personal, non-commercial use, but you may not reproduce, republish, or exploit our content commercially without our prior written permission.

Affiliate links and third-party sites

The Site contains affiliate links to third-party retailers (for example, seed suppliers and equipment). If you buy through these links we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. We only feature products we consider relevant, but we are not responsible for third-party websites, their content, products, or practices. Following an external link is at your own risk and subject to that site’s own terms and policies.

Newsletter, waitlist, and products

You can join our newsletter or the Seed to Spice ebook waitlist by submitting your email address, and unsubscribe at any time. Sprowt Premium is available to buy as a subscription — see “Sprowt Premium subscriptions” below. The Seed to Spice ebook is not yet on sale; when it becomes available, any sale will be subject to separate terms provided at the point of sale.

Accounts

You can create a free Sprowt account to use the grow tracker and related features. Sign-in is passwordless: you log in with a Google account or a one-time code and link sent to your email. One email address is one account.

You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure and for activity carried out under it. You must provide accurate information, be at least 16 years old, and not share your account or impersonate anyone else. Some areas of the Site remain restricted to administrators.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these Terms, and you can stop using your account at any time.

Your content

The Site lets you create and submit content — including grow logs, notes, photos, journey entries, reviews, lists, and event submissions (“Your Content”).

You keep ownership of Your Content. By submitting it, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, and display it as needed to operate and improve the Site and its features — for example, showing an approved review on a variety page. Where you have turned on the optional photo consents in your account settings, that licence extends to featuring your photos in guides and marketing; you can withdraw those consents at any time.

You confirm that you own or have the right to share Your Content and that it does not break the law or infringe anyone’s rights. Public reviews and public profiles can be seen by anyone, and reviews appear next to your username even if your profile is private.

We may check photos and reviews before they appear publicly, and we can moderate, refuse, or remove any content at our discretion. You can edit or delete Your Content, and make your profile private, at any time.

Sprowt Premium subscriptions

Sprowt Premium is an optional paid subscription that unlocks additional features. It is offered as a monthly or annual plan and may include a free trial. Current prices are shown at checkout.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your account’s billing settings; your Premium features continue until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you will not be charged again after you cancel. Where a free trial is offered, billing starts when the trial ends unless you cancel before then.

UK and EU consumers normally have a 14-day right to cancel a purchase. Because Sprowt Premium is digital content and services you can use immediately, by subscribing you ask us to begin providing it straight away and acknowledge that your 14-day cancellation right may be lost once the service has been fully performed. This does not affect statutory rights that cannot be excluded. Refunds are handled in line with your legal rights and our reasonable discretion.

We may change Premium features or prices. We will give reasonable notice of any price change before it affects you, and you can cancel if you do not accept it.

Disclaimer of warranties

The Site is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, express or implied, including as to accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, and uninterrupted or error-free availability.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss or damage arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Site or your reliance on its content. Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Privacy

Our use of your personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top of this page shows when they were last revised. By continuing to use the Site after changes are posted, you accept the updated Terms.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
